Shawn Johnson, DO, MS, Assistant Instructor
Dr. Johnson was raised in the sea-side town of Mashpee, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He received a B.S. in medical biology in 2009 from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. During that time, he gained lab experience at both Genzyme Genetics as well as at the NASA bioastronautics department in Houston, TX as a student intern. He received both his medical degree and masters degree in biomedical science from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Kirksville, Missouri in 2014. He subsequently graduated from a residency in internal medicine at Corpus Christi Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas in 2017. Dr. Johnson then joined WFIRM in the summer of 2017 as a clinical-translational fellow of regenerative medicine. He holds the academic position of assistant instructor, with a cross-appointment in the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center family practice department. Dr. Johnson also serves as a member of the executive committee for the Student Society for Stem Cell Research.
SYNOPSIS OF AREA OF INTEREST:
As a physician scientist, Dr. Johnson is interested in developing a proper evidence-based clinical approach to regenerative therapies, as he believes it is essential for the field to become well-integrated into the practice of modern medicine. He is specifically interested in translational medicine, as it pertains to QA/QC, manufacturing, process and product development, regulatory affairs, and clinical trials involving regenerative medicine therapies.
