Dr. Thomas H. Irving Endowed Professorship
At the 2015 Alumni
Dinner in Winston-Salem, Past Chairman (1998-2008) and Emeritus Faculty,
Dr. Raymond Roy concluded the evening with a remembrance of Dr. Thomas H. Irving (Past Chair 1970-1982)
explaining the significance of honoring him with an endowed Professorship. “As a department we have a potential barrier
to future success. We certainly have been and currently are endowed with great
talent. We are underendowed financially compared to the major academic
anesthesia departments with which we compete and compare ourselves. We do not
have the number of endowed professorships and chairs a department with our
national prominence should have. Harvard, Penn, USCF, and Wash U have many; we
have only one, the Francis M. James III Endowed Chair of Anesthesiology. We
need these endowed positions to recruit and to retain outstanding faculty
In order to achieve the goal of 1
million dollars to fully endow the professorship in Dr. Thomas H.
Irving’s honor, we currently have two anonymous donors willing
to commit a half a million based on matching funds.
If you would like to participate in honoring Dr.
Thomas H. Irving please contact Dr. Roy firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a conversation.
