Clinical Anesthesia residents receive 3 weeks of vacation in each of their CA 1-3 years, with an additional 5 days off arranged during the winter holidays (Christmas or New Years) whenever possible. Residents are allowed 5 meeting days during each of their CA1-3 years, in addition to vacation. Clinical Base Year residents also receive 3 weeks of vacation during their CBY year, with an additional 5 days off arranged during the winter holidays (Christmas or New Years) whenever possible. (While this is not absolutely guaranteed, it is the norm for our program, as well as for most intern rotations.)
The Department of Anesthesiology provides a generous resident spending allowance of $1,000 per year for each of the CA1-3 years, to help cover the cost of books, meetings, lab coats, etc. CBY’s may borrow in advance from their CA-1 spending account. The Department provides 2 essential anesthesia texts during the CBY year, as well as other supplemental books throughout residency to aid in In-Training Exam and board preparation. Many additional Anesthesia textbooks are available through our library in E-textbook format. Sponsorships are provided for resident conference presenters whenever possible. The Department of Anesthesiology reimburses each resident one time for the cost of Step 3.
Anesthesia trainees have a new study room in close proximity to the OR with 10 study carrels, 5 computers, and network printer. There are two additional resident study rooms in the department, as well as the department library, and kitchen (free coffee, tea, hot chocolate.)
