Wed. morning regional anesthesia subspecialty conference
Wednesday morning Subspecialty Conference

The Department of Anesthesiology maintains a vigorous conference schedule, with the aim of providing diverse opportunities each week for residents and faculty alike to interact and enhance learning. We provide lectures that challenge residents dependent on their level of training.

  • Monday Conferences are faculty-led lectures and case based discussions which allow attendings to highlight emerging research and best practices within their specialties aimed at the senior residents (CA-2 and CA-3).
  • Tuesday Conferences are resident-led chapter review sessions, based on well known chapters in major anesthetic textbook.  A faculty member facilitates and mentors the senior residents in preparing this lecture for our CA-1 residents.
  • Wednesday morning Anesthesiology Grand Rounds are general topic presentations, led by departmental faculty, guest faculty speakers from within the medical center, and renowned national speakers as part of our Visiting Professor Lecture Series.  M&M’s are held during Grand Rounds approximately once a month.
  • Subspecialty conferences follow Grand Rounds each week.
  • Thursday Afternoon Case Conference is a faculty-led conference, which focuses on applying the knowledge obtained from the lectures given earlier in the week. During the Thursday conference we incorporate small or larger group discussion, audience response system for cases and questions, jeopardy and other interactive approaches that will enable the resident to apply what they have learned.
  • During January and February we incorporate a Focused Board Review, in advance of the in-training exam.
  • Monday conference and Thursday conference suspends over the summer, to make way for the annual CA-1 Lectures, a daily teaching series taught by faculty, based on key anesthesiology texts.
  • Journal Clubs are held intermittently throughout the year, usually in conjunction with Visiting Professors.
  • Mock Orals are held twice each year.  Six of our faculty members who participate in Mock Orals are official ABA Board Examiners.
