Clinical Rotations
The two year training program is one of intensive training during which the residents assume progressive levels of responsibility for patients assigned to the attending surgeons on the faculty. There is a rotational schedule by which the first and the second year thoracic surgical residents are assigned to one of two services on a rotational basis every three months. The rotations are the Adult Cardiac Surgical Service and the combined Congenital Heart /General Thoracic Service which become their primary areas of focus during that period. While specific rotations for the various components of this education are planned, these assignments will be managed in a way to provide the residents with the opportunity to take full advantage of exposure to the rarer aspects of the learning experience.
