 The Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity (SID) focuses on supporting the educational mission of the medical school and its goal of excellence through inclusive and diverse measures. SID programs and activities include short-term objectives such as assisting the Office of Admissions with recruiting and the Office of Student Services with retention of students from diverse backgrounds. The long-range objectives focus on medical career awareness and preparation of underrepresented, disadvantaged and non-traditional students. In addition, SID assists the Office of Medical Education with efforts to provide an inclusive and culturally sensitive learning environment.

 Dr. Bernard Roper plays a lead role in the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity as Director,  along with his duties within UGME, such as support of student government and support of student professionalism. Bernard Roper is a Bow-tie fanatic, and he believes Chocolate and Chick-fil-A should be main food groups.

Delia joined Student Affairs in 2013 and Student Inclusion and Diversity team in 2016, and serves as the Student Inclusion and Diversity Program Coordinator.  Delia Rhodes is a world traveler, Girl Scout Leader Extraordinaire, organizer of all things, and owner of the World’s Most Badly behaved dog.  She keeps snacks in her office to encourage students to drop by and visit.

Timmery Cook joined Student Affairs as well as the Student Inclusion and Diversity team in 2016, and serves as the Student Inclusion and Diversity Special Projects Coordinator. She serves as a helpful resource for the students and provides them with specific information and assistance. Before joining the Student Affairs staff, Timmery earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health and Nutrition at East Carolina University. Timmery is interested in seeking a Master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health Education and Health Behavior. Timmery was an intern at Eastern Area Health Education Center, where she assisted the AHEC team with Pipeline programs for high school students, coordinated events, and participated in evaluation.
