Physician Assistant Students Applying for Financial Aid
Deadline:
Incoming Students: March 1 [regardless of acceptance status]
Returning Students: March 15 (Returning students are required to fill out forms each year to be eligible for aid.)Application Process
Step 1:
Complete the 2011-2012 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon after January 1 as possible. The form is available online. (Completing the online form is faster and prevents many of the common errors associated with the traditional paper form.)
The WFSM School Code is E00524.
Parental financial information is not required on the FAFSA for graduate/professional students in order to receive federal loans but it is required for need-based aid.
Estimating financial data is acceptable if 2010 tax documents are not available at the time you are completing the form. Parental financial information is required on the FAFSA for all students applying for need-based scholarships and grants from WFSM’s need based resources.
Your SAR (Student Aid Report) will arrive about 4 weeks after you submit the FAFSA. The SAR indicates your expected family contribution, which is used to determine your eligibility for federal student loans. The SAR also lists the information you reported on the FAFSA, so that you can check your information for accuracy. If no corrections are needed, keep the SAR for your records. If you listed the WFSM school code in the college release section of your SAR, we will receive your information electronically.
Step 2:
A signed copy of student/spouse and parents’ 2010 Federal Income Tax returns & W-2 forms must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office. If 2010 returns have not been completed, you may send a copy of 2009 returns until 2010 returns are complete If an extension is being filed, a copy of the extension form and a copy of 2009 returns are required until the return is filed. Once filed, you must send a 2010 copy to the Financial Aid Office.
Step 3:
Review award letter from Wake Forest School of Medicine and accept or reject loans and scholarships offered accordingly. (Award letters will be sent shortly after the aid application deadline to accepted applicants who completed their aid applications by the financial aid application deadline.)
Return your signed award letter to the WFSM Office of Financial Aid by the deadline indicated on your award letter. The Financial Aid Office will certify your eligibility for the loans you have accepted and send the certification to your chosen lender for processing.
Step 4:
The WFSM Financial Aid Office will then email the necessary link to electronically sign your MPN (Master Promissory Note). Please wait for this e-mail before completing your MPN.
Read, complete and electronically sign the MPN (Master Promissory Note). The lender will not disburse loans until you have electronically completed the promissory note. Loans will be disbursed during orientation or during the first few days of the school year.
