PA Application Procedures
Physician Assistant Students Applying for Financial Aid
Application Deadline:
Incoming Students: March 1 (regardless of acceptance status)
Returning Students: March 15 (Returning students are required to fill out forms each year to be eligible for aid.)Application Process
Step 1: FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Complete the 2013-2014 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon after January 1 as possible. The form is available online. (Completing the online form is faster and prevents many of the common errors associated with the traditional paper form.)
The WFSM School Code is E00524.
Estimating financial data is acceptable if 2012 tax documents are not available at the time you are completing the form.
After your FAFSA is processed, you will receive a summary of your information in your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you provide an email address, your SAR will be sent by email within 3-5 days. If you do not supply an email address, your SAR will be mailed to you about 4 weeks after you submit the FAFSA. The SAR indicates your expected family contribution, which is used to determine your eligibility for federal student loans. The SAR also lists the information you reported on the FAFSA, so that you can check your information for accuracy. If no corrections are needed, keep the SAR for your records. If you listed the WFSM school code in the college release section of your SAR, we will receive your information electronically.
Step 2: Award Notification
Award letters will be sent via email soon after the application deadline. Review your award letter from Wake Forest School of Medicine and accept or reject loans and scholarships offered accordingly.
Step 3: Completion of Federal Loan Requirements
Go to www.studentloans.gov to complete mandatory entrance counseling and your Master Promissory Notes (MPN's). These are requirements under the guidelines of the Federal Aid program and Federal loans cannot be disbursed until these steps are completed. Loans will be disbursed during orientation or during the first few days of the school year.

Receive award notification: Incoming students will receive their email in mid-April and returning students will receive an email in mid-May notifying you of your awards..
Review awards online and accept or reject awards offered accordingly. Note: The total amount you accept will be divided into two equal disbursements.
Submit your awards online within 14 days of reciept. The Financial Aid Office will certify your eligibility for the loans you have accepted and send the certification to the Department of Education.
Read, complete and electronically sign your Master Promissory Notes (MPN's). An MPN must be completed for the unsubsidized Stafford loan. If you also accepted the Graduate PLUS loan, you must complete a separate MPN. The MPN link is provided once you submit your financial aid. If you did not complete the MPN when you clicked submit, go to www.studentloans.gov.
Your awards are first applied towards tuition. If there is a remaining balance, an incoming student should expect to receive a "refund check" at orientation
