International Medical Graduates

International medical graduates (IMG) must hold a "valid" ECFMG certificate and obtain a J-1 visa.

ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) is the sponsoring agency for international medical graduates. The USINA (United States Immigration and Nationality Act) authorizes ECFMG to sponsor international physicians as exchange visitors (J-1 Visa) in graduate medical education programs affiliated with accredited United States medical schools.

International medical graduates may also enter the training program if he/she has obtained a green card or has become a naturalized citizen.

The international medical graduate must be able to obtain a North Carolina Residency Training License.
