Stipend Levels: 2017-2018
Life Insurance: All full-time residents receive paid term life insurance equal to the individual's annual salary rounded to the next $1000. This policy is effective 90 days after appointment. Additional term life insurance and dependent life insurance are available for purchase through a payroll deduction.
Medical Benefits: All full-time residents are eligible to enroll in the Health Plan offered by WFBMC using the MedCost Network effective on the date of appointment at a nominal cost of $22.15 per biweekly pay period for the individual coverage. Other coverage levels, such as employee/spouse coverage are $85.85 per pay period, and family coverage is $121.38. In addition to basic hospital and medical benefits, preventive services are also covered. Prescription drugs are covered through a co-payment program with a network of pharmacies that include the outpatient pharmacy at the hospital. There is no pre-existing exclusion for pregnancy. The dental plan provides coverage for in-network preventative services. The cost is $4.44 biweekly for employees.
Disability Insurance: After 90 days of employment, residents are covered for disability benefits. The group plan provides 66% of monthly salary; payment of benefits begins 90 days after the onset of disability. Premiums for this policy are paid in full by the medical center.
Professional Liability Insurance: Residents are provided malpractice insurance to cover assigned supervised activities of the residency program effective on the date of appointment.
Retirement Savings Plan: A tax-deferred saving plan provides the opportunity to invest pre-tax dollars. Residents have the option of investing up to the current annual maximum of $18,000 of your income. At the end of residency, this money may remain in the plan and continue to grow or be transferred to another 403b plan, 401k plan, or an IRA account.
Professional Support: Fees for the GTE (Gastroenterology Training
Exam), DDSEP8 study materials, and ACG, ASGE, AGA, and AASLD membership are
provided by the Department.
Leave: The medical center provides up to a 90 day medical/family leave as needed in compliance with the Family/Medical Leave Act of 1993. However, as required by the American Board of Internal Medicine all leave requests must be carefully reviewed to assess whether the time away from training will necessitate prolonging the length of the residency. Educational leave to attend approved regional/national meetings and conferences (1 week) is available during the 2nd and 3rd years.
Vacation: Fellows will receive 15 days of paid vacation. In addition, there are 7 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays per year; however, each fellow will be on call one holiday per year.
