National Scientific Meetings/Professional Societies Membership
The GI section will provide a stipend ($1,200) for at least one national meeting over the three years. Approved meetings include Digestive Disease Week (DDW), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) annual meetings. Other meetings are subject to the approval of the Program Director, and will be judged on the basis of their educational value. Time off from clinical responsibilities will be protected for 3 days each year for attendance at a national meeting.
If the Fellow has a poster or presentation at the meeting, a total of $1,200 will be provided to cover expenses of attendance at the meeting. Note that this presentation should represent a notable body of work such as of the results from their research project that will ultimately be submitted as a manuscript. Clinical vignettes or observations that will not be submitted for publication may not qualify for this Sectional Support. Since presentations at national meetings are a requirement of our fellowship training program, it is expected that each Fellow will be able to qualify for $1,200 stipend to attend a scientific meeting during his/her third year or earlier. All Fellows are encouraged to join the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) during their fellowship. These memberships will make many educational materials available to you, and will hopefully provide the basis for a long term involvement with these societies. Any application or membership fees will be paid by the section.
