Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Surgery

The Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Surgery Service at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center provides expert, compassionate and unfailingly polite care of its patients.

The service consists of Drs Greg Waters and Russell Howerton.  One chief resident, one third year resident and one intern rotate on our service at any given time.  We all care for a high volume of complex patients in these fields.

Operating room time and clinic time are structured to allow senior resident attendance at the clinics and OR’s of both attendings.  The focus of intern effort is on care of the hospitalized patients and attendance at appropriate OR events.  In addition to attendance at all of the general departmental conferences, our team participates in the GI Medicine conference on Tuesday afternoons.  We also attend a section specific Surgery/Pathology session reviewing slides on one Tuesday morning a month.  Another Tuesday morning each month is devoted to a HPB oncology conference also attended by medical oncologists, radiologists and radiation therapists.

There are usually 3rd and 4th year medical students on our service as well.  It is our expectation that the residents and students will become familiar with the science and surgical principles underlying these two fields while assisting us in providing expert, compassionate and unfailingly polite care of our mutual patients.
