Director
Dr. John Owen is the Director of the Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program. Dr. Owen received his medical degree from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology at Toronto General Hospital in Ontario. Additionally, Dr. Owen completed a research fellowship in Coagulation at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, NY where he remained as a member of the faculty for 10 years. His specialty is the treatment of benign blood disorders and coagulation therapies. He is the Director of the Special Hematology Laboratory and the Medical Director of the Coagulation Laboratory.
Dr. Owen brings over 30 years of medical experience to the Fellowship Program. In addition, he has an MBA in Management which enriches his contributions to the training of our Fellows. He strongly encourages the Fellows to participate in research blocks and enthusiastically supports their participation in national and international meetings.
On a personal note, Dr. Owen enjoys traveling, golfing and is an avid bell ringer. Many an evening he can be found enjoying engaging conversation at a nearby pub. Cheers!
