Current Research: My research interest focus on the intracellular renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the kidney in terms of expression, localization, synthesis, regulation and function of the components of this endocrine system. My current studies utilize the NRK-52E cell line, an established proximal tubule epithelial cell model to elucidate the functional relevance of this system.
Furthermore, I am interested in studying the regulation of the intracellular RAS system under pathological conditions, and in particular diabetes. In addition, my studies have begun to establish the role of Angiotensin-(1-7), an endogenous product of the RAS, as a potential therapeutic approach to prevent renal fibrosis in response to stimulation of the NRK-52E cells by advanced glycation products including methyl glyoxal albumin.
