Current Research:

In vivo and in vitro approaches to study different aspects in the brain function, with emphasis on neuronal-glial interaction and their dysfunctions in diseases. My previous training has provided me with a variety of techniques to study brain blood flow and metabolism. I am interested in applying this knowledge to studies of the brain renin-angiotensin system in hypertension and, thus, sought the position as a research fellow under the direction of Dr. Debra Diz. My projects involve localization and regulation of components of the brain renin-angiotensin system to understand the contribution of this system to alterations in blood pressure and whole body energy metabolism. I plan to develop skills in this hormonal and transmitter system and additional skills in long-term studies in conscious rats to facilitate my future goal as an independent researcher in brain neurochemistry, physiology and pharmacology.
