Matthew Wilson, MD

Matt Wilson

Wake Forest Internal Medicine residency provides a healthy balance between resident autonomy and underlying support and guidance from faculty.  Throughout my residency, I have found attending physicians to support resident education and offer helpful clinical teaching points.  Being a tertiary care academic hospital, Wake Forest Baptist Health is a major referral center.  Our patients have very diverse backgrounds and present with disease states ranging from common ailments to exquisitely rare pathology.  As a resident, I enjoyed ready access to the expertise from our many subspecialists.  Perhaps most important, Wake Forest Internal Medicine residency creates a fostering environment for learners through mentorship.  I have developed strong personal relationships with faculty members that helped with research publications, professional development, and support for fellowship.

Matt Wilson is originally from Grand Rapids, MI and obtained his undergraduate degree from Albion College and medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine.  He plans to pursue fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine after his Chief Residency year.  He is also an officer in the US Navy Reserves.  His wife, Kristin Wilson, works at a non-profit organization that serves children with autism.  They enjoy spending time with family, CrossFit, and visiting the Outer Banks.
