Class of 2015
Meagan O'Brian Bailey, MD
Hometown: El Paso, TX
Undergraduate: B.A, University of North Texas, Denton, TX
Medical School: MD, Texas Tech, El Paso, TX
|My name is Meagan Bailey and I'm originally from El Paso, Texas, so I love Mexican food and warm weather. My husband and I met in college at the University of North Texas, and we got married right before I went to medical school at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. When I applied to residencies we wanted a change of scenery so that is how we ended up here. We are really happy we matched here; the people are great and the city is in a great location. We are close enough to drive to the mountains and the beach. In my free time I like to cook and read and my husband and I like to travel - when we get the opportunity. This picture was taken on our vacation to Alaska.|

Robert Drake Bolen, MD
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Undergraduate: B.A, Clemson University, Clemson, SC
Medical School: MD, Medical College of South Carolina
Neurology Interests: Epilepsy
|Hi, my name is Robby
Bolen and I'm a fourth year neurology resident. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia,
but my family and I moved to Columbus, Ohio while I was in high school. I
moved back down south after high school and attended college at Clemson
University in South Carolina, and medical school at MUSC in Charleston,
South Carolina. During my time off, I enjoy watching college football, where I
cheer for both Clemson and the Ohio State University. I also enjoy
playing the guitar and spending time with my wife Sarah, who is works as a
Pediatrician at Lexington Pediatrics. I choose to come to Wake for my
neurology training because of the great residents and excellent faculty.|
Ashley Marie Wabnitz, MD
Hometown: Orlando, FL
Undergraduate: B.A, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
Medical School: MD, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL
I was born and raised near Orlando, Florida and went to school in the Sunshine State as well - UF for undergrad and USF for med school. One of my favorite activities is cheering on the Florida Gators, especially
| during football season, and teaching my niece how to do the "Gator chomp" when I go home to visit family. I decided to leave the heat and humidity of Florida to head north and found North Carolina was a happy compromise for a girl who doesn't know a thing about snow. I interviewed all over the southeast, as far north as the DC/Virginia area and found a perfect match with the residents and program at Wake Forest. I wanted to be at a program with a group of people I could hang out with on the weekends, and I found the faculty to be welcoming and supportive of their residents. Choosing Wake was an easy decision. In my free time I love to cook and am always looking for new recipes to try. Before coming to residency, I became the proud owner of a miniature long haired dachshund. This has led to my other new obsession - buying shoes to replace the ones Sophie eats.|
David Lawrence White, MD
Hometown: Alexandria, VA
Undergraduate: B.A, Louisana State University, Baton Rouge, LA
Medical School: Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC
Hi, my name is David White and I am one of the third year neurology residents here at Wake Forest. I am originally from Alexandria, LA and went to LSU for undergraduate where I developed an obsession with Tiger football. While at LSU I met my wife, Gina, and we both decided to pursue a career in medicine. We were married in the summer of 2007 and began medical school together at Wake Forest School of Medicine about 3 months later. We loved Wake Forest so much we decided to stay here for residency (she is doing a Pediatric residency). Along the way we welcomed our first child into the world one month before Match Day! I spend most of my time with my wife and son, but when I'm not working or spending time with the family I enjoy all sports (but especially golf and football), guitar, and watching a good movie.
Class of 2016
James Anthony Crisp, MD
Hometown: Burlington, NC
Undergraduate: BS, NC Central, Durham, NC
Medical School: MD, Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN
|Hello! I am James Crisp, a HOII at Wake Forest with the Neurology program. I was born and raised in Burlington, NC, and am the youngest of six children. Since the age of five, I have wanted to be a doctor. It was at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, (Eagle Pride!), where neurology became my niche in the world of medicine. I also met my wonderful wife, Sarah, in undergrad. My desire to venture away from home led me to acquire my medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Although my time away was much needed and enjoyed, I am glad to be back in NC close to my family and friends. In my free time I enjoy sleeping, playing piano, sleeping, golfing, sleeping, visiting family and above all spending time with my wife, (and sleeping).|
|Cintasha T'Rena Redmond, MD|
Hometown: Orangeburg, SC
Undergraduate: BS, Xavier University of Louisana, New Orleans, LA
Post Graduate: MPH, University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill
Medical School: MD, University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill
|Hi! My name is Cintasha T’rena Redmond and I am from Orangeburg, SC. I have travelled here and there but never outside of the U.S. My last adventure was my honeymoon with my husband Kareem in the beautiful isles of Hawaii. I went to the best university in the land, Xavier University of Louisiana, for undergrad and UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. I am currently working on completing a Master’s in Preventive Medicine at UNC School of Public Health. I have a special interest in preventive medicine, public health, and healthcare disparities. I hope to conduct research on these subject matters and possibly enter into a career as a vascular neurologist. However, my interests in neurology are vast, as EVERYTHING in neurology is cool, so I am still open to many fields! Why should you come here…cause we love neurology and love is all you need!|
|Joel Henry Torres, MD|

Jessica Whicker Williams, MD
Hometown: Thomasville, NC
Undergraduate: BS, Wake Forest University
Medical School: MD, Wake Forest University School of Medicine
I grew up just down the road in the small town of Thomasville, NC and went to Wake Forest for undergrad where I met my amazing husband. I stayed around for med school and loved the neurology department so much that I could not think of any reason to go elsewhere for residency. So, you won't find anything but black and gold around our house. When I have free time, I love white water rafting - I experienced my first run down the Lower Gauley this year and can't wait to go back next year! I also love traveling with my husband, reading, crocheting, hanging out with our adorable cats (Rajah and Merlin), golfing and cheering on our Deacs!
Class of 2017
Kyle William Binder, PhD, MD
Hometown: New York City, NY
Undergraduate: BS, University of Virginia
Medical School: MD/PhD, Wake Forest University School of Medicine
I was born in New York City and lived in Charlottesville, VA for a number of years before heading to Winston Salem for my MD/PhD degrees. For my PhD I designed and built a skin bioprinting system to repair burn wounds. I’d like to extend some of those techniques to nerve repair. My fiancée Nancy is the best part of my life. We enjoy sports, exercising, card games, and good movies. We’re both from New York and she’s a Mets/Giants fan while I’m a Yankees/Jets guy. Somehow we make it work though, probably because we’re both huge Disney fanatics as you can probably tell from the picture.
Kevin James Brenzy, DO
Hometown: Masontown, PA
Undergrad: California University of Pennsylvania
Medical School: West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Neurology Interests: Sports Neurology & Multiple Sclerosis
Hey! I am Kevin, and I am honored to be a part of the house staff here at Wake Forest. Growing up in a small town south of Pittsburgh never did I imagine that I would be the first in my family to go to college, let alone med school. I have learned through my experiences that if you set goals and aim for your dreams they are truly attainable. I have had the privilege of interviewing all over the country for neuro residencies, but WF stood apart from the rest. You will see for yourself that the people here are what make the difference. Not to mention the town of Winston-Salem, it is such a great place to start a new life and enjoy everything NC has to offer. In my free time I love to play golf, PlayStation, fantasy football, and of course root for all of my Pittsburgh teams. I also love to travel with my wife Lauren, and just about every week we go to dinner and a movie.
Arvind Muralimohan Gomadam, MD
Hometown: Columbus, GA
Undergraduate: BS. University of Georgia, Athens, GA
Medical School: MD, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA
Neurology Interests: Stroke, Neuroritical Care
Hey! My name is Arvind Gomadam and I am just starting my intern year as a prelim-neuro at Wake Forest. I am from a small city and spent most of my years in Georgia. I met my wife as a first year medical student in Augusta, GA and before I knew it I was married and starting my training in neuro. Both my wife and I enjoy the city of Winston-Salem. She is a 2nd year resident in internal medicine. We loved the family oriented atmosphere at Wake. Outside the hospital, I enjoy spending time with my wife, jogging, GEORGIA FOOTBALL, watching movies, ATLANTA FALCONS, eating Thai food, gaming, and training my dog.
Erica Sweeney, MD
Hometown: Macomb, IL
Undergraduate: BS, Marshall University
Medical School: MD, Marshall University
Neurology Interests: Undecided
Since moving to WS my husband and I have most enjoyed trying new things together, like Mozelle’s downtown and local wineries. My husband and I come from a small town in WV and feel like Winston Salem has a nice community feel while having plenty of new things to do and try. We’ve made a lot of new friends, fellow residents and their spouses, as well as neighbors. We both like living a little further out from the city so we bought a house in Clemmons, which is a nice 15 minute car ride to and from work. Everyone at WFUBMC has been exceptionally nice; I was pleasantly surprised to be welcomed so readily as a prelim in the internal medicine program. Residents and fellows, as well as attendings, have all been very approachable and willing to help across all programs.
Quang Dang Vu, MD
Hometown: Annandale, Virginia
Undergraduate: BA, University of Virginia
Medical School: MD, Medical College of Virginia
Neurology Interests: Neuro-intensive care, Epilepsy
Hi! I'm Quang Vu! I was born in Vietnam and didn't come over to the states till I was 3 years old. I've pretty much lived in Virginia since I came to the US.
Moving down to North Carolina for residency was the first time I left VA. I attended UVA for undergrad, where I majored in Physics. When I wasn't studying Physics, I was rocking out on my guitar at coffee shops at UVA. My two favorite bands are the Beatles and Oasis. Then when medical school came along, my guitar and I took a break from each other... that is until fourth year came along when we were reunited again.
Medical school wasn't so bad --I met my wife (Sumin) on the first day of orientation. We got married in Cancun after graduation. It was AWESOME. We did the couple's match so if anyone has a question about it, feel free to email me! The match alone is hard enough but when you have two matches, it's just becomes ridiculously crazy. My wife is doing Radiology next year. In our spare time, we enjoy hiking, watching movies, eating good food, and playing poker with our friends.
Other than playing guitar, I love technology and buying all the latest gadgets. I always like to be on top of the latest tech news. If you ask me about any latest gadget, I can probably tell you the latest reviews about it and give you some advice to buy it or not!
Class of 2018
Mary Ann Cavanaugh, MD
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
Undergraduate: University of Notre Dame
Medical School: University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
Hi, I am Beth Anne. I was born and raised outside of Philadelphia. I attended University of Notre Dame for my undergraduate education and University of Cincinnati for Medical School. I decided to move East when I fell in love with both the Pediatric program and the Neurology program at Wake Forest. Winston-Salem is the perfect city for me and in my free time I enjoy gardening, hiking and skiing. I am passionate about medical education and I am very excited to be here at Wake Forest!
Eduardo Cortez-Garcia, DO
Hometown: Guadalajara, Mexico
Undergraduate: B.S., University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL
Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, PA
I was born in the second largest city in Mexico, Guadalajara. My family moved to the United States when I was a child. We lived in a couple of states ranging from California to Kentucky. We eventually settled in the rural town of Boaz, Alabama. Strange, I know. I majored in Biology at the University of Alabama, Roll Tide, and took a year off before starting medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Georgia Campus. During my year off, I traveled the eastern coast of the United States, hiked part of the Appalachian Trail, and was lucky to meet my fiancé, Luisa.
Luisa and I have a son and daughter who are musically talented. During my free time I enjoy outdoor sports, running, and road trips with my loved ones. My love for the outdoors and family made my decision to select Wake Forest easy.
The residents are so easy to talk to. It felt like I had known them for years when I first met them. The faculty and staff make you feel like family. They greet you with smiles and provide you with support any way they can. It was the only place during interviews where I was given hugs by the program coordinator. Winston-Salem has all the seasons of the year without the extreme temperature ranges. It has more than enough attractions in very close proximity to anywhere you are. It is a great place to work and play.
