Hello! My name is Justin and was born and raised in the midwest (Michigan/Indiana), met my wife (Alyssa) in undergrad an hour south of Chicago, and after venturing down to southwest Virginia for medical school have continued heading southward to NC… and we're loving it! I've always been told how friendly the Midwest is, but after coming to Winston-Salem, have really been blown away by the incredibly welcoming atmosphere of both WFBMC and the city of W-S itself. I was immediately impressed with the enthusiasm for teaching, high caliber of upper-level residents, and inviting atmosphere created by the staff and physicians. My Neurology interests are still pretty wide open at this point but am currently leaning towards Headache, Movement, or Cognitive Disorders. I’m interested in hiking, piano, and rock climbing but most of all enjoy spending free time with my wife, daughter and son.

Undergraduate: BS, University of Oklahoma
Medical School: MD, University of Oklahoma College of Medicine
Hi! My name is Kayla Bowden, and I'm so happy to be a resident here at Wake Forest! I grew up in an Oklahoma town of about 300 people, so moving halfway across the country has been an exciting adventure for me. I'm a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where I attended both undergraduate and medical school (Boomer Sooner!). Even though I'll always be an Okie at heart, I had no doubt that Wake Forest was where I wanted to complete my Neurology residency. In my free time I enjoy reading, watching movies, and OU football (of course).

Hey, I grew up on a farm in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. I was inspired to pursue Neurology because of my step-brother who had Duchene's Muscular Dystrophy. Before I realized I wanted to be a physician, I got my PhD in English from Auburn University. My family and I love Winston-Salem, and the Neurology department here has been fantastic in supporting me during Intern year and supporting me in pursuing research as well as clinical training. I love SEC football, literature, and playing any sport. I have a newborn son and a two year old daughter; Winston is a great place to raise a family.
