Sleep Medicine Fellowship

Thank you for your interest in the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program at Wake Forest School of Medicine.  We offer one Sleep Medicine Fellowship position per year. 

Prerequisite: 
Each applicant is required to have completed or will complete a three-year family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, otolaryngology, pediatrics and psychiatry residency program accredited in the United States or Canada.  Applicants must qualify for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and must be Board Eligible.

Foreign medical graduates must have passed the E.C.F.M.G. and U.S.M.L.E. exams.  Additional information may be obtained by visiting the ECFMG website.  The institution sponsors only J-1 Visa which you must have at the time of your application.

ACGME accredited one year Sleep Medicine Fellowship provides extensive experience in the clinical evaluation and management of a variety of sleep disorders across all ages, along with proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools in evaluation including polysomnogram, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness test and portable sleep studies.  This training program provides the fellow with ample experience in an ambulatory setting with neurology, pulmonary and pediatric pulmonary attendings on a regular basis along with the fellow having his/her own continuity sleep clinic.  The fellow will also be required to gain experience in the scoring and interpretation of sleep studies and to prove his/her proficiency.  There is an intensive laboratory exposure and the fellow will have the opportunity to interpret about 2000 studies.  The fellow will also have the opportunity to work with otolaryngologist (both adult and pediatric), neuropsychologist, and orthodontist in the management of sleep disorders.  Our sleep center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and has a fully fledged eight adult and two pediatric sleep beds with plans to expand the pediatric sleep beds.  This training program also provides an opportunity to participate in a research project with the sleep faculty.

Fellows who complete this one year ACGME accredited Sleep Medicine Fellowship will be eligible to take the exam leading to certification in Sleep Medicine.
