Dr. Suzanne Danhauer Appointed OWIMS Associate Director

Danhauer Suzanne CIt is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Suzanne C. Danhauer, PhD, Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Social Sciences and Health Policy in the Division of Public Health Sciences, as Associate Director of the Office of Women in Medicine and Science (OWIMS). She will assume this position on October 1, 2016.

Dr. Danhauer has been a member of the faculty of Wake Forest School of Medicine since 2003. A psychologist by training, her research focus is on reducing symptoms and enhancing psychological wellness in cancer survivors. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 and awarded tenure in 2013. She holds joint appointments in the Department of Internal Medicine, Section on Hematology and Oncology and the Clinical & Translational Science Institute  (CTSI) at the School of Medicine. Dr. Danhauer has led or been a co-investigator on numerous NIH grants, published 60 articles, and is a sought-after consultant and speaker.

Dr. Danhauer has been a member of OWIMS since 2008 and served as a Mentor in the Women Junior Faculty Mentoring Program and a member of the Leadership and Mentoring Program Committee. She has also served on the Wake Forest Women’s Forum Executive Committee initially as Co-Chair of the Work-Life Balance Task Force and then as Co-Chair of the Women’s Forum. She is a graduate of the OWIMS Career Development for Women Leaders Program and has completed the AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar, the Leadership Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership, the American Psychological Association Leadership Institute for Women, the AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Development Seminar, and the CTSI Mentor Academy.

Dr. Danhauer plans to continue the focus of the OWIMS on developing the careers and leadership skills of women faculty, trainees and students, by refining the career development programs, publishing about these programs and their demonstrated outcomes, and taking a leadership role in the Women Junior Faculty Mentoring Program.
