Dr. Godwin’s Mentees had this to say
Godwin is an excellent listener. He
always carefully and patiently listens to me.
He likes to use his own experiences to show me how to deal with
different situations, which I find very helpful and constructive. Thanks to his advice, I have made big
progress in the past and will continue to benefit from his advice in the
- I had the
great pleasure of having Dwayne Godwin as my graduate mentor during my time at
Wake Forest. Dwayne was so much more than simply an academic advisor, he was –
and still is – my teacher, supporter, counselor, and strongest advocate. On a personal level, Dwayne has been an
outstanding listener, role model and coach.
He has taught me and shown me how to succeed in academics and in life
and how to balance the two. For this, I am forever grateful.
- I have
personally known Dr. Godwin since 2004, when I joined the Department of
Neurobiology & Anatomy as a graduate student. Even twelve years ago, Dr. Godwin stood out
as an example of who we wanted to become. His dedication to the students and
postdoctoral fellows has been unparalleled. Dr. Godwin has demonstrated
extraordinary commitment and effectiveness as a mentor not only to me, but also
to many of my colleagues. I am an
international student, from a culture where family is the most important thing
in your life. I can undeniably say that Dr. Godwin was my big brother when I
needed one to stand by me to fight a battle, my father when I needed advice
through the tough times, my biggest fan when I did not believe in myself, my
headhunter when I needed a job, my therapist when I needed to be listened to,
and he is a role model that I am happy to call my friend.
