Ian Hutchinson, MD

Dr. Hutchinson comes to the Physician Scientist Program at
the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Wake Forest School of Medicine with a
background in cartilage tissue engineering and knee joint biomechanics. He was
awarded the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) Travelling Fellowship
(2013) to visit cartilage repair centers of excellence in Europe during his
first year at Wake Forest.
Dr. Hutchinson is currently enrolled in the Molecular
Medicine and Translational Science PhD program and is working on a NASA project
with Jeff Willey, PhD (PI) investigating the challenges to knee joint health
during prolonged spaceflight. His PhD thesis will focus on the biological and
biomechanical consequences of cartilage irradiation as a function of loading status.
