National Meeting Attendance
Typical meetings attended during residency with the Department of Otolaryngology include:
The American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Fall Annual Expo (AAO-HNS)
The Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meeting (COSM)
The American Otolaryngic Allergy Association Fall National Meeting (AAOA)
The NC/SC Otolaryngology Society Annual Meeting
It is expected that residents submit at least one research project for consideration for oral presentation or poster presentation any time they travel to attend a meeting. Additional meeting attendance can be considered for residents who have papers accepted for other National Otolaryngology Society Meetings. Prior to presenting at any national meeting the resident will give their presentation at a departmental conference for feedback and support.
Whenever a resident attends a meeting at the expense of the department, it is expected that the resident take advantage of every educational opportunity offered at the meeting. This includes staying actively engaged in attendance at scientific and research sessions, panel discussions, workshops, instructional courses, etc.
Several opportunities for travel also occur throughout the 5 year training period to attend sub-specialty specific educational courses, incumbent upon available funds and resources and approval of the Program Director and Department Chairman.
