Policy on Moonlighting
There will be no moonlighting the PGY1 and PGY2 years of the Otolaryngology residency. Moonlighting will thereafter be allowed as long as the resident performance is appropriate for that year of training and does not cause the resident to fall out of compliance with ACGME standards for sleep requirements or duty hour limits. Potential hours for moonlighting begin Friday night and must be completed by Sunday at 8pm; hardship appeal will be reviewed by the ROC.
New GME requirements indicate that moonlighting activity must be documented and be available for RRC review. It is also indicated that residents cannot have over 80 hours of assigned work activity a week to include moonlighting time. In compliance with these requirements, each resident is to provide to the Residency Coordinator a monthly record beginning each July 1 of moonlighting time, location, and a statement verifying that the moonlighting has not caused more than an 80-hour work week to occur for the respective resident.
