Operative Assignments

When possible, the administrative senior resident will make the next day's resident OR assignments in the afternoon.  The assigned resident will be responsible for discussing the patient with the appropriate attending and acquiring appropriate x-rays and laboratory tests prior to the patients surgery. It is the expectation that the resident will also be available at the beginning of the surgical case to position the patient and prepare the endoscopy and microscope equipment as part of his resident education training. It is expected that an otolaryngology physician be present at time of anesthesia induction. The resident should have reviewed the case the evening before the surgery and have knowledge of that patient the morning of the surgery.
