Vacation and Travel

In addition to meeting time, the resident will be awarded two weeks of vacation time per year and a five day period over the Christmas/New Year's holidays. Five total days during the 4th and 5th years will be available for job interviews /fellowships /home purchases, etc, and time beyond this will be vacation time. Additional unique requests for time off will be decided on a case by case basis. Time absent from a year over six weeks maximum will be made up at the end of the residency program as required by the ABO. Only one resident at a time will be allowed time off, except for national meetings or courses. Time off will be on a first come first serve basis. Vacations will be taken one week at a time. All absences except for family emergency will be scheduled and approved at least one month in advance to allow recording on the call schedule. A cumulative yearly record of absences will be required for each resident yearly for the resident file.
