Beth Steinbeck Williams, PharmD, BCPS, Clinical Director of Pharmacy  Williams_Beth_SQ

Hello and welcome to the WFBMC Pharmacy Department!  My name is Beth Williams, and I am one of two Directors of Pharmacy at Wake Forest Baptist.  For nearly the past five years, I have led the acute care division of the corporate Department of Pharmacy.  Other than leadership, my primary areas of interest include patient safety, quality improvement and continuity of care.  I earned my BS and PharmD degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a pharmacy practice residency at WFBH.  I am active in multiple state and national pharmacy organizations and am currently focusing my efforts on advancing pharmacy technician roles in the state of North Carolina.

On behalf of the WFBH Pharmacy Leadership Team, I am pleased to offer the Masters / Administrative Residency in collaboration with our partners from Duke University Medical Center, UNC-Hospitals and UNC School of Pharmacy.  This program has been designed to not only give you the skills to be a successful pharmacy leader, but also to provide the training and experience you need to make a difference in the ever-evolving and challenging health care environment of the future.  We welcome the opportunity to share additional information with you about the program, as well as our medical center and department.  Most importantly, we wish you the best as you explore the many opportunities to launch your career in our wonderful profession.

Your interest in an Administrative Residency program couldn’t come at a better time, as our profession is in need of future innovators and leaders.  We are dedicated to providing a residency experience that will provide insight into the delicate balance of managing a health system through business acumen, strategic vision, change management, and above all quality patient care.  Our philosophy of managing self and systems while leading people will serve as the foundation for your growth and development as a future clinician and leader in the profession.  We look forward to meeting you and sharing our compassion for pharmacy and those we serve.

Adam Orsborn, PharmD, MS, Interim Director of Pharmacy

Orsborn_Adam_SQThanks for visiting us!  We are excited to have the opportunity to train the pharmacy leaders of tomorrow and look forward to meeting you.  It has always been my passion to help residents develop and to continue to improve and grow the residency experience. I am extremely fortunate to have  found the support for this passion from our visionary Directors (Jamie and Beth) in my career at Wake Forest. I graduated with a PharmD from the University of Nebraska and experienced the two year administrative residency and master's degree at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics with our residency program director, Nate Peaty. The knowledge gained from that program has allowed us assess the strengths of our residency and identify continued opportunities to enhance our experience here by incorporating the Wake Forest culture.  My current role is the Assistant Director of Pharmacy for the Continuum of Care here at Wake Forest. That includes comprehensive pharmacy services built around patient transitions within 40 clinics (3 infusion clinics), 5 heme/onc infusion cneters, affliate community hospitals, specialty pharmacy, home infusion, 6 outpatient pharmacies, and patient assistance. I am heavily involved in the design of the admin residency experience and my roles include PGY2 advisor, PGY2 rotation preceptor, and mentor. At Wake Forest you will find an engaging and challenging experience designed to provide a solid foundation for your career as a pharmacy leader and push the limits of what you can accomplish. And we make sure to weave in every opportunity to have a good time!

Nate Peaty, PharmD, MS, Operational Coordinator – Central Pharmacy, Co-Director for Administration Residency Peaty_Nate_SQ

We appreciate your interest in our department and residency program and hope you find all the information you are looking for to assist you with your decision.  I have been with WFBH since 2007 and am the Systems Manager - Medication Quality team in addition to being a co-director for our Administration Residency with Adam Orsborn.  Prior to Wake Forest, I attended UNC-Chapel Hill for pharmacy school and subsequently completed a MS Pharmacy Administration Residency at the University of Wisconsin.  My areas of interest include process management, human resources, team dynamics/development, automation/technology, and supply chain management.  It has been a unique honor and privilege to develop our pharmacy leadership training program alongside such a great leadership team.  I expect you to find that at WFBH we are fully committed to providing the best training program for YOU.  We take pride in getting to know our residents and quickly identifying their needs/desires and tailoring their experience for leadership training.  This allows our program to focus on developing core leadership and management skills that allow our graduates to be highly effective leaders in many different settings and environments.

Jason Chou, PharmD, MS, Operational Coordinator – Systems Manager for Distribution Performance Chou_Jason

Welcome! Thank you for the interest in our Administration Residency here at the Wake Forest Baptist, something we are extremely proud of. I am fortunate enough to have the honor of being the first resident to complete the Health Systems in Pharmacy Administration Residency here at the Baptist, in collaboration with the UNC Schools of Pharmacy and Public Health, so the growth of development of this program is something that is very special to me. I started here in 2009 as a resident, and stayed on as Operations Coordinator for Critical Care and Emergency Department Services. I recently accepted a new role as Systems Manager for Distribution Performance. Prior to my arrival here, I completed my PharmD at The Ohio State University, and my BS in Cell and Structural Biology for The University of Illinois. Leadership development, systems management, automation/technology, operations, and clinical practice models are just a few areas of interest. I am also currently serving as a faculty member on the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Leadership Academy, teaching 2 modules focusing on medication safety and leading for results. I believe the combination of residency training at Baptist and didatic education from the number 2 nationally ranked Schools of Pharmacy and Public Health has allowed us to become one of the top residency programs in the country. We are excited at the prospect of training tomorrow's leaders, and look forward to further growth of our program.

Magaha_Gavin_SQGavin Magaha, PharmD, Current 2nd Year Administration Resident

Thank you for taking a moment to visit our website to learn more about our team. My name is Gavin Magaha, and I'm the Senior Administration Resident here at WFBH. Originally from Maryland, I received my BS from High Point University, workes as a high scholl teacher and coach and thenearned my PharmD from Wingate University. When evaluating adminisrative residency programs I wanted a program that would engage me in several environments-clinical and administrative, inpatient and outpatient. The Wake Forest program is dynamic, tailored to the interests and needs of the individual resident. For me this includes transitions of care development, pharmacy operations optimization, and involvement in government affairs. If I can help provide you further information on our program, please feel free to email me. Best of luck to you in your search.
