Boone PA students raise depression awareness
On a beautiful August morning, Boone Class of 2017 PA students Brianna
Blossfield, Jenna Gilmour, Catherine McLean, Katherine Ness, Elise Rosenow, and
Caroline Thoreson ran the SpeakUp 5k on Boone’s Greenway.
SpeakUp 5k is designed to honor 16-year-old Cameron Gallagher,
who died from an undiagnosed heart condition away after running a half marathon.
Before her death, Cameron worked to fight the stigma of teenage depression.
SpeakUp 5k continues her work. For more information, visit http://speakup5k.com/.
Blossfield, Committee Head of Student Health and Wellness, organized Wake
Forest student involvement. After completing the race, Brianna commented, “It
was very motivating to be running to raise awareness for teen depression and in
support of Cameron and her story. All along the run were encouraging messages about
pushing forward and loving yourself. It was all very well done. It was
definitely an inspirational story and a wonderful day!” [written by Jennifer Kole, Class of 2017]
