Dr. Colleen Patton joins PA Studies
New Boone faculty member Colleen Patton has been taking care
of patients for more than 27 years. She started in medicine as a registered
nurse in rural Appalachian community hospitals and continued nursing for 14 years.
PA school at the University of North Dakota came next, after which she received
an MMS from Nova Southeastern University and a doctorate in curriculum studies from
Georgia Southern University with a research interest in medical humanities,
Appalachian culture and history. Dr. Patton entered PA education in 2006 at
South University in Savannah, Georgia, and has also been an educator and director
of clinical education at The George Washington University in Washington, DC,
and Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. She has practiced clinically
in family medicine, hematology/oncology, and emergency medicine. She is from
Boone and is happy to be returning there now that her husband has completed his
military career as a pilot in the Army.
