The PA Program congratulates President-elect Gail Curtis!

Wake Forest PA Program vice chair and associate professor Gail Curtis has just been chosen president-elect of the American Academy of PAs. She will serve as president-elect in 2016-2017, as president in 2017-2018, and as immediate past president in 2018-2019.

Curtis has served in leadership positions for decades, most recently as vice president and speaker of the House of Delegates for AAPA. During her campaign, she emphasized the value of her experience, including clinical practice in several specialties; 25 years spent training PA students, medical students, and family medicine residents; service to the North Carolina Academy of PAs as well as to AAPA; mentorship roles within the North Carolina Medical Board and the state health program to support providers struggling with addiction illness; and development of a partnership to support PA education in the United Kingdom. About her new role she said, “I am honored and humbled for this opportunity to serve this great PA profession!”

In her campaign materials, Curtis noted that “the single most important issue facing PAs is being recognized for the value we bring to healthcare delivery.” Her platform statement described what this recognition might look like: “Imagine a future PA who provides patients with cost–effective, evidence-based medical care. This PA knows with certainty that PAs are always included in new healthcare legislation. He or she takes for granted that PAs process claims in their own name and that practice administrators know the value they bring.” The Wake PA Program could not be prouder of this election victory and is eager to see the vision Curtis articulated in her platform statement be realized.
