Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Training Curriculum
 

PLASTIC SURGERY RESIDENT ROTATIONS


PGY 1

  • 4 weeks of pediatric surgery
  • 4 weeks of vascular surgery
  • 4 weeks of trauma/critical care
  • 4 weeks of minimally invasive surgery 4 weeks of surgical oncology 
  • 8 weeks of emergency general surgery 
  • 4 weeks of ENT/head and neck surgery
  • 4 weeks of urology 
  • 4 weeks of dermatology/Mohs surgery
  • 4 weeks of plastic surgery
  • 4 weeks of anesthesia
  • 4 weeks of emergency medicine 

 

PGY 2

  • 1 month of pediatric surgery
  • 1 month of burn surgery 
  • 2 months of surgical critical care 
  • 1 month of ENT/head and neck surgery 
  • 1 month of orthopaedics/hand surgery
  • 1 month of plastic surgery
  • 2 months of plastic surgery research
  • 3 months of private practice general surgery

 

PGY 3

  • 1 month of vascular surgery
  • 1 month of transplant surgery
  • 2 months of emergency general surgery 
  • 2 months of plastic surgery research 
  • 6 months of plastic surgery

 

PGY 4

  • 1 month of Mohs surgery 
  • 1 month of private practice plastic surgery
  • 10 months of plastic surgery

 

PGY 5

  • 12 months of inpatient and outpatient plastic surgery including microsurgery, hand surgery, facial reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, breast reconstruction/reduction, complex wound care and flap reconstruction, hand and facial burn reconstruction, lower extremity reconstruction, and pediatric/craniofacial surgery. 

 

PGY 6

  • 6 months of outpatient aesthetic/cosmetic surgery. 
  • 6 months of inpatient and outpatient plastic surgery including microsurgery, hand surgery, facial reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, breast reconstruction/reduction, complex wound care and flap reconstruction, hand and facial burn reconstruction, lower extremity reconstruction, and pediatric/craniofacial surgery.

WEEKLY CONFERENCES

Wednesday 7-8:30 AM:  Preoperative Conference & Faculty/Guest Lecture 

Wednesday 5-6 PM:  ACAPS Curriculum Review with In-Service Exam Questions 

 

MONTHLY CONFERENCES

Tuesday AM:  Mock Oral Exams (every 2 months) 

Tuesday PM:  Hand Surgery Conference 

Wednesday AM:  Morbidity & Mortality Conference 

Wednesday AM:  Anatomic Dissection 

Wednesday AM:  Business of Medicine Lecture Series (every 4 months) 

Thursday PM:  Journal Club 

 

GENERAL SURGERY CORE CURRICULUM

During the first two years of the integrated program, residents have monthly assigned readings on basic science and general surgery topics with review of ABSITE exam questions.
