Urologic Cancer

When the diagnosis is cancer, where you are treated has a significant impact on how well you do. At Wake Forest Baptist, you can have peace of mind knowing that our urologists have special training in oncology and work as a team with urologic cancer specialists from our Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 26 in the United States. You’ll benefit from the shared knowledge of surgeons, medical oncologists, interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists who will work together to determine the best treatment for you.

A hallmark of Comprehensive Cancer Centers is research to develop next-generation therapies. Our patients have access to these treatments through our membership in two national cancer study research groups funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In addition, we are one of a few cancer centers in the country with an NCI-funded Prostate Cancer Center of Excellence aimed at preventing the disease and developing novel treatments.

Study after study has equated high-volume surgery centers with better results. Each year, we perform more than 1,000 surgical procedures for patients with urologic cancers, including minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery, an option associated with shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times.
