Student Awards

Katherine H. Anderson Award

Established in 1988 and named for the first Medical Director of the Physician Assistant Program and a much respected physician, both in the community and the institution, this award is given to a first-year student in recognition of exemplary performance and professional growth toward becoming a physician assistant during the pre-clinical year. The recipient of the Katherine H. Anderson Award is chosen by the faculty of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.

Kitty Bowman Excellence in Research Award 

Established in 2004 and named for the first registrar of the Physician Assistant Program, who was also a founding member of AIDS Care Service, a regional nonprofit health and social services agency for persons infected with or affected by HIV, this award is presented to a student in the graduating class who represents an outstanding commitment to research or to the integration of evidence-based medicine into clinical practice. The recipient is selected by the Director of the Graduate Project and the Chair of the Department of PA Studies.

James Franklin Wilson Memorial Award

Established in memory of a graduate of the Class of 1973, this award is presented annually to a student of the graduating class who shows the greatest aptitude for and devotion to the profession. The recipient is selected by a committee comprised of the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, the Medical Director, the Director of Clinical Education, and a graduating student selected by the faculty. The James Franklin Wilson Award is the highest award given to a physician assistant student.
