Emergency Medicine Residency

Emergency Medicine Residency

Trauma Resuscitation

In continuous operation and fully accreditited since 1974, the emergency medicine residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) is the oldest EM residency program in the southeast and one of the founding programs in the country. We are proud of our heritage but even more excited about our future.

We are a university-based training program located in Winston-Salem, NC. WFBMC is an 830-bed tertiary care institution affiliated with the Wake Forest School of Medicine. Most all specialties are represented. Our emergency department, a level one adult & pediatric trauma center, has an annual volume of >100,000 patient visits and sees the entire spectrum of human illness. Brenner Children’s Hospital, a 160-bed tertiary care center for children, is located on campus. A brand new state-of-the-art pediatric ED opened in April, 2011 and serves as North Carolina's only level one pediatric trauma center. Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, located in Greensboro, NC is our affiliated community hospital. Our residents rotate through their busy emergency department for a valuable “community ED” experience.

Our goal is to train high quality emergency physicians who are capable of practicing emergency medicine in whatever setting they choose and become leaders in our specialty.
