: American Board of Internal Medicine Question: What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Health?
Answer: I did my undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University before returning to Ohio for medical school. During my interviews for residency, I found myself drawn once again to Wake Forest and the Internal Medicine Residency program offered at Wake Forest Baptist. The faculty at Wake Forest Baptist is renowned, providing excellent teaching to trainees while the hospital system is impressive in terms of the technology and innovation, ongoing research, and commitment to exceptional patient care. All of this was proven over and over throughout my time as both a resident and then as an assistant chief of medicine following my residency. I am excited to continue to my medical career in such a great environment! Q: What are your clinical specialties?
A: My clinical specialty is general internal medicine, focusing on both the prevention and treatment of diseases in adults of all ages. Q: Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?
A: The main reason that I chose primary care was because it gives me opportunity to develop long term, personal relationships with patients and their families. Q: What is your patient care philosophy?
A: My patient care philosophy is to partner with patients, recognizing the context of their unique situations, and to develop the best plan for their health and well-being. Q: What do you enjoy most about working with patients?
A: I enjoy getting to know patients beyond their charts. I think it is important to understand what is happening in a patient’s everyday life as this impacts both his or her physical and emotional health. Q: What fun facts should we know about you?
A: I recently married an Ironman; not the Marvel comic book character, but a banker by day, triathlete by early morning. I am passionate about desserts; picking out my wedding cake may have taken the cake, no pun intended, as my favorite part of the planning process. I have a great workout partner named Dexter (my dog), who pulls his fair share of weight on our walk/runs together. My favorite place to visit is Lake Michigan. I have gone there every summer since I was about five years old. The sunsets, sand dunes and cherries are easily among the best on this earth!
