Question: What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center?
Answer: I wanted to be a part of a proud, local team. The focus on academic, evidence-based medicine at Wake Forest Baptist was my strongest reason for coming on board.
Q: What are your clinical specialties?
A: My clinical specialties are family medicine and sports medicine.
Q: Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?
A: I’ve always been a curious person, and have always wanted to know how everything works and fits together. But, I also didn’t want to limit myself; I wanted to do a little of everything, see young and old, male and female. In sports medicine, it is fun to work with athletes who are trying to do the right thing by eating right and exercising, and trying to prevent disease before it happens. I want to do anything that I can to keep them going.
Q: What is your patient care philosophy?
A: I believe in focusing on prevention. I like to discuss immunizations, cancer screening, and lifestyle management with my patients. Most of what we see in medicine today can be prevented, but there’s only so much we can do after someone gets sick. For me, the best answer is if patients can help themselves from getting sick through preventative strategies.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working with patients?
A: I enjoy getting to know my patients on a personal level. I like to understand where they came from, what their upbringing was like, what is going on in their life right now, what type of work they do and what they are struggling with. Everyone knows that eating right and exercising is the healthy thing to do, but if you are struggling with that because of something else going on in your life, the advice rings hollow.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to spend time at home with my family, rolling on the floor with the kids, playing games, cooking and eating at home, and working in the yard or on the house. I enjoy being outdoors. I am also a big sports fan.
