Finding and Treating Arrhythmia Issues
At Wake Forest Baptist, we’re working hard to discover new and better treatments for patients with complex heart arrhythmia problems and other issues relating to heart failure. Our Heart Center’s specialists in cardiac electrophysiology and our premier cardiothoracic surgeons work together to offer one of the few centers in the state providing treatment for atrial fibrillation. Leaders in Cardiac Electrophysiology
We give our patients access to a wide variety of experts in cardiac electrophysiology and other therapies.
Tony W. Simmons, MD, has served as lead investigator for ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillators) therapy research and assisted in writing the national guidelines for ICD use and implantation.
In addition, led by Dr. Simmons, the Heart Center is heavily involved with the latest clinical trials in cutting-edge treatments including cardiac electrophysiology. Our trials have determined that utilizing ICDs can help identify and define those types of patients who benefit from such treatment. The findings can possibly double the pool of those benefiting from the technology.
