Clinical Labs Administration
Full-time regular, 40 hours/week
Assiststhe Administrative Director with the operational and clinical management functions of the Department of Pathology. Accepts medical center responsibility for coordinating initiatives and interactions with other departments and the medical faculty. Responsible for maintaining appropriate and state-of-the-art medical practices for one or more disciplines in the department of pathology. Responsible for maintaining accreditation standards as defined by CAP, JCAHO, AABB, FDA and CLIA. Generates financial analysis, forecasts, pro forma's and performance reports. Coordinates, directs, teaches, manages process improvement initiatives and Six Sigma projects. Sets priorities in areas of responsibility in support of the organizational goals and targets. Takes global responsibility for all aspects of the department in the absence of the administrative director. Interacts with pathology faculty to assure quality patient care.
- MHA or MBA Degree Required.
- 2 years hospital management experience.
Licensure and Certification:
- MT(ASCP) or Equivalent Certification Preferred.

2. Establishes, interprets and communicates departmental and Hospital polices and procedures.

Reviews policies and procedures for required updating.
Interprets and ensures Hospital and departmental policies are followed.
Assists managers and employees with policy/procedure questions.
3. Manages staff to accomplish departmental objectives.
Recruiting, interviewing and selecting applicants.
Orienting and training staff on hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Conducting 90 day and annual performance evaluations on time.
Utilizing the disciplinary process when appropriate.
4. Ensures compliance with all laboratory certification requirements as mandated by both internal and external agencies and organizations.
Maintains compliance with all laboratory certification and regulatory agencies both internal and external?such as CLIA, AABB, FDA, JCAHO and CAP.
Represents the department and hospital in activities and functions related to accreditation and certification of laboratory service.
5. Achieves financial objectives for the department(s).
Preparing annual expense budget for the department(s).
Preparing Capital Equipment requests.
Analyzing expenditures by reviewing monthly variance reports.
Monitoring salary budgets.
Recommending and implementing process changes to improve systems.
6. Leads in the development and administration of departmental functions.
Develop and evaluate departmental goals and objectives to comply with the divisional strategic plan.
Assists the Administrative Director in HSA and PSA contract development and negotiation.
Develop and monitor the strategic plan, generating financial reports and formulating marketing strategies for the pathology joint venture outreach program.
Assures that all Medical Director duties are performed and accurately recorded on the appropriate hospital forms.
7. Provides management development programs for Section Managers and/or Assistant Managers as in-service education.
Plans and/or presents structured programs on departmental procedures, technical development, inservice programs, technology development, personnel management and personnel policies/procedures.
Assures management staff development in Six Sigma and Process Management programs.
Schedules management sessions on a regular basis.
Provides follow-up to Administrative Director as to development and success of various programs.
8. Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
Exhibits an appropriate attitude of professionalism in dealing with hospital staff, patients, visitors, coworkers and management staff.
Demonstrates commitment to the hospital and laboratory department?s philosophy, goals, management practices and general operations.
Participates in inservice and continuing education programs (minimum of 10 hours/year outside of annual required inservices).
