Job Summary: This position supervises and directs the daily activities of the hourly employees to include Team Leader I and Lead Cook. Oversees food and dish room operations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Leads staff to high quality patient/customer satisfaction standards.



Education / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One to two years experience in food services environment, with supervisory experience preferred. Customer service experience preferred.



Reports To: Department Manager



Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: ServSafe Food Safety Certification within one year of employment in position, which must be maintained throughout employment period.


Essential Functions:




Adheres to the hospital and departmental policies and procedures promoting a cooperative work environment. Demonstrates a personal responsibility and commitment to customer service and satisfaction by utilizing communication skills to interact with patients, customers, and staff to develop interpersonal relationships and team building.


Contributes to overall positive patient and customer satisfaction striving to meet the highest service and quality standards.


Maintains a 97% or better sanitation rating from the Health Department by following sanitation policies and completing daily/weekly cleaning assignments. Maintains a double gold rating from NSF. Ensures that Sodexo standards are consistently being met. Department maintains a minimum average Gold Check score of silver.


Monitors quality of product at stations, ensures recipe compliance and adherence to brand standards and departmental guidelines. Reviews production area with Lead Cook to ascertain productivity, that delivery schedules are being met, as well as serving line start times and schedules are being met.


Follows all workplace safety and sanitation rules and regulations helping to maintain a safe work environment. Responds to corrective action plans from weekly sanitation inspections.


Completes required in-service training, job specific training, annual Compliance and HIPAA training, and annual TJC/OSHA training.


Participates in department's performance improvement initiatives. Duties are performed accurately and efficiently. Works as a team player; provides support to other Food and Nutrition Services departments as requested by management. Supports diversity through cultural awareness and special menus.


Minimizes product waste and controls cost. All equipment and supplies are properly utilized, maintained, and handled properly to avoid breakage. Follows portion control guidelines and manages food and supplies. Evaluates excess prepared food with Cook for utilization.


Complies with departmental and/or brand standards. Ensures all required HACCP and required brand documentation is completed accurately.


Assists the Department Manager with leadership within the department. Supervises and directs the daily activities of employees. Executes Corrective Action Forms as necessary. Assists in managing budget responsibility; achieves the net contribution for department area.


Assumes responsibilities of Department Manager in their absence by following and implementing all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Keeps overtime to a minimum by ensuring adequate employee coverage for each shift. Develops and posts employee schedule. Approves PTO for employees.


Follows and monitors cash handling policies as pertaining to deposits and safe controls, as well as following proper protocols when in possession of the safe room.


Skills and Qualifications:



Must be literate in English and able to follow instructions and have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook

Must be organized and able to make independent decisions with little involvement from management, providing leadership and direction to staff as necessary

Knowledge of food service equipment, preparation, service, and safety

Must be able to work independently and efficiently, taking necessary initiative to solve problems

Must be a self motivator and able to adjust to the needs of the department

Desire to achieve high customer service standards

Must be able to learn and comply with cash register system and procedures

Ability to work weekends and holidays

Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people including patients, visitors, employees, nursing staff, managers, and hospital staff

Work Environment:

May be required to work in all areas of the Food and Nutrition Services departments including but not limited to kitchen and retail areas.

Exposure to wet tile floors and dangerous, sharp equipment.

Exposure to large steamers and ovens that generate high heat and steam.
