Job Summary: The Lead Trauma Registrar is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all Trauma, Burn and Emergency General Surgery (EGS) registries; develops and assures competencies for all Trauma Registrars; ensures all registrars maintain current knowledge of coding, abstraction data definitions and entry requirements; maintains the necessary systems to ensure compliance with specific registry standards as set forth by the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association.

Education / Experience: High School diploma required. College degree preferred. Two (2) years experience as Trauma Registrar required. Certification as Trauma Registrar required.

Reports To: Trauma Program Manager

Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: Certified Trauma Registrar.

Essential Functions:

1.

Develops and maintains processes to ensure timely and accurate registry data collection, entries and reports. Ensures confidentiality of registry data.

2.

Develops and maintains orientation, competency assessment and continuing education updates for registrars.

3.

Ensures accuracy of Trauma/Burn/EGS registry data. Develops systems to assess inter-rater reliability and participates in all data validation activities.

4.

Maintains documentation of all registry activity. Provides data and reports to support trauma/burn/EGS research, education, performance improvement and associated activities.

5.

Maintains current knowledge of registry requirements through collaboration with Trauma Program Manager, PI Coordinator, peers and state/national continuing education programs.

6.

Assists in other aspects of the WFUBMC Trauma Services Department as deemed appropriate by the Trauma Program Manager.

7.

Promotes a cooperative work environment by utilizing appropriate communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Maintains responsibility for keeping self informed about changes in policy/procedure. Participates in departmental educational offerings and staff meetings.

Skills and Qualifications:

Knowledge of computers

Knowledge of databases

Ability to abstract clinical data from EMR, other sources

Ability to work effectively as a team member

Excellent customer services skills
