Job Summary: The Nursing Specialist serves as the clinical expert and facilitator of quality patient care outcomes through the identification and implementation of strategies focused on nursing practice and patient care systems. Collaborates with the co management teams to develop and implement care protocols which achieve optimal patient outcomes. Emulates and serves as a role model, coach and mentor for professional nursing practice. Facilitates, conducts and publishes research, assists others to and provides representation of the Medical Center at educational conferences.
Education / Experience: BSN from an accredited school of nursing, MSN or Masters in related field required, BCLS required, minimum of 4 years experience in nursing, minimum of 2 years experience in nursing specialty preferred.
Reports To: Director of Nursing
Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: Active RN Licensure, certification in clinical specialty required within one year of hire date
Quality/Culture of Safety: Promotes a culture of safety in the Medical Center for patients, self and co-workers. Promotes efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of evidence-based nursing practice to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Monitors, observes and coaches clinical practice at the point of care/bedside. Shares accountability with nursing leadership for the delivery of nursing care and quality outcomes. Assures appropriate orientation, curriculum development and education, credentialing, and continuing professional development for personnel. Develops and revises policies and procedures to reflect current standards of care and best practice. Provides clinical consultation within the Medical Center. Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assists in integrating services across the continuum of care.
Customer Service: Promotes a collaborative service oriented culture and work environment. Incorporates Caring Science to ensure optimal care of patient, team, and self. Maintains privacy, confidentiality, and security for patients and staff. Facilitates resolution of conflicts and serves as a role model for staff. Empowers staff in decision-making through shared governance. Ensures care is delivered with respect for patient's rights and preferences.

Finance: Assumes responsibility with the co management teams for the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of the budgetary process for designated area(s). Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate timely discharge of patients to decrease length of stay. Optimizes resources to ensure the provision of quality, cost effective care. Identifies appropriate patient care equipment and supply needs for the area of specialty. Creates an environment and serves as a role model to promote fiscal responsibility. Facilitates awareness of caregivers as to the financial impact of care deviations or inefficiencies.
Patient Population Competencies: Ensures/provides appropriate patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of the needs of the patient population. Utilizes communication skills in obtaining information, providing education, and conveying patient needs sensitive to patient population. Utilizes knowledge of patient population care needs during an emergency response or when utilizing emergency equipment.
