Postdoctoral position is now available in the Pain Mechanisms Laboratory within the Department of Anesthesiology. Candidates should have a background in neuroscience or related field relevant to the study of chronic pain. The position is funded for at least two years by a recently awarded 5-year NIH funded project studying cellular mechanisms involved in the transition from acute to chronic postsurgical pain. The project focuses on role of descending inhibition and spinal glial mechanisms in the resolution of postoperative pain following incisional and neuropathic injury. Studies are also ongoing examining the interaction between stress, pain and noradrenergic circuitry.
Prior training with animal behavior, pharmacology, primary glial culture, confocal and fluorescent microscopy as well as standard biochemical techniques (RT-PCR, western blot, ELISA) are preferred.
