Resources & Research Support Cores
Basic Science Resources:
The HVRC basic science facilities consist of approximately 10,000 square feet of laboratory space, including most of the core faculty laboratories and major equipment, located on the 6th floor of the Hanes Building. This includes histology and general wet lab facilities, tissue culture facilities, dark room for autoradiography (1st floor Hanes), general laboratory space for molecular and cellular experiments, electrophoresis, high performance liquid chromatography, and analytical peptide analysis, shared small animal surgical facilities equipped for physiologic experiments, instrument rooms, a conference room, and an imaging facility with computerized densitometry system and microscopy.
Clinical Resources:
The HVRC has clinical and clinical research facilities for the exams and assessment of hypertension, autonomic and vascular function. An outpatient facility located in the Janeway Clinical Sciences building, serves both clinical activities and support for clinical research. The area is staffed with a receptionist, exam rooms and a hemodynamics laboratory equipped with diagnostic tests for vascular compliance, central pressures, indices of autonomic function and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Equipment includes continuous non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems and software for spectral and sequence evaluation of sympathetic and vagal contributions to blood pressure and heart rate.
