Wake Forest Baptist nephrologists are internationally renowned for their expertise in providing highly specialized care for patients with chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease and hypertension.

In addition to caring for the hundreds of patients who have transplant procedures each year in one of the largest transplant programs on the East Coast, Wake Forest Baptist offers patients several types of home and outpatient dialysis through 18 freestanding centers located throughout the region.

The section is widely known for its research on peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, hypertension and the genetics of kidney disease. Clinical issues are prime topics for study, and this dedication to applied research has made the nephrology section a leader in clinical trials on dialysis and kidney disease funded by the National Institutes of Health. These projects have allowed Wake Forest Baptist physicians to make significant contributions to advancing the treatment of kidney disease for patients throughout the world.

The Nephrology clinic, an outpatient clinic of North Carolina Baptist Hospital, prides itself on dedicated customer focus and compassionate patient care. Patient inquiries and appointment scheduling phone calls will be answered promptly and efficiently by our receptionist.

Outpatient Dialysis

Wake Forest Baptist Health owns 20, free-standing, outpatient dialysis centers, located throughout the Triad and the Western Piedmont region, allowing patients to access dialysis services close to home.

All centers offer in-center hemodialysis on two shifts, Monday-Wednesday-Friday, and Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday. The first shift begins at 6 a.m.; the second at 11 a.m.

Miller Street Dialysis Center offers a nocturnal hemodialysis shift, allowing patients to receive hemodialysis during sleeping hours. It starts at 7 pm on Monday-Wednesday-Friday evenings. Most treatments generally last four hours depending on the physicians’ orders. Television sets are available for patients during their treatment.
