Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Again Named One Of Nation?s 100 Most Wired Hospitals & Health Systems

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center was again named one of the nation’s 100 “Most Wired” hospitals and health care systems by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association. The award is based on the fourth annual survey of the nation’s health care systems on their use of Internet technologies to connect with patients, physicians and nurses, payers, health plans and employees.

“This is another example of the Medical Center’s continued commitment to improving patient safety and satisfaction through the use of information technology.” said Jon Brown, information services security officer for the Medical Center.

Hospitals & Health Networks received information from more than 300 organizations representing 794 acute care hospitals via an eight-page online survey. The magazine’s analysis of the data revealed that the nation’s most wired hospitals enjoyed several advantages over the less wired hospitals: better control of expenses, higher productivity, more efficient utilization management and better credit ratings.

The survey covered online capability in areas such as scheduling appointments, health information and news releases, disease state management, and physician referral.

The 100 Most Wired were named in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks.
