WFUBMC Receives Five Awards from World Wide Web

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has received five awards through the Fall/Winter 2005 World Wide Web Health Awards. This semiannual program recognizes the best health information Web sites for consumers and professionals.

In the Patient Education class, the Medical Center received a gold award for its overall medical center Web site, http://www1.wfubmc.edu, a bronze for its Comprehensive Cancer Center Web site, http://www1.wfubmc.edu/cancer, and a merit award for its Center for Reproductive Medicine Web site, http://www1.wfubmc.edu/ivf.

In the Health Promotion/Disease & Injury Prevention Information class, the Medical Center received two merit awards for the BestHealth Web site http://www.besthealth.com.

“This is a great honor,” said Jan Strohl, senior marketing manager, e-business, for Wake Forest Baptist. “The World Wide Web Health Awards is the largest and most prestigious awards program for healthcare Web sites.”

The Web sites were rated by how effectively they delivered health information to their target markets, graphic design quality, and overall quality and effectiveness.

“We have worked very hard over the past few years to establish a unified look for the Medical Center Web site and to stress the importance of quality content,” said Tyler Haney, e-communications systems manager for the Medical Center. “These awards demonstrate that our approach is working."

The Comprehensive Cancer Center Web site also won a “Distinction Award” by the e-Healthcare Leadership Awards in November 2005.
