Wake Forest Baptist Respiratory Care Services
Earn National Recognition

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sept. 14, 2012 –Respiratory Care Services at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR).

QRCR is a national program designed to help patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. Only 15 percent of hospital Respiratory Therapy departments in the United States have applied and received this award. The two Wake Forest Baptist programs join a group of only 700 hospitals nationwide with this designation.

The QRCR program was initiated by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified Respiratory Therapists (RTs) to provide respiratory care services. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services. Hospitals that meet the AARC’s QRCR requirements provide a level of respiratory care consistent with national standards and guidelines and should be commended for their commitment to quality care. A list of QRCR hospitals is maintained at the association’s website for consumers, www.YourLungHealth.org.

RTs are specially trained health care professionals who work under physician direction to provide a wide range of services to adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. RTs deliver services including diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative, educational and care coordination services.
