Foot and Ankle

Foot and Ankle Research

At Wake Forest Baptist Health, we know even better how to treat foot and ankle injuries because we are leading research initiatives to develop new treatments for them. Our dedicated physicians are investigating new ways to repair Achilles tendon injuries and to treat orthopaedic trauma.

  • Aaron Scott, MD is leading research into new ways to treat Achilles tendonitis and ruptures by finding the strongest repair technique for re-attaching the tendon to the bone.
  • Our orthopaedic department is participating as a CORE center for the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC), a multicenter consortium established with support from the Department of Defense to develop a network of clinical study sites to perform clinical outcome studies and provide treatment guidelines for managing high energy orthopaedic trauma in wounded warriors and civilians. Our foot and ankle specialists are looking at hind foot injuries experienced by soldiers in Afghanistan to determine whether amputation or limb salvage provides the best outcome for the patient.
