Loss of Fat Tissue and Functional Responses to Exercise in Older, Obese Adults (I’M FIT)

Long Study Name: Improving Muscle for Functional Independence

Study Type: Physical activity/weight loss

Study Purpose: 
The I'M FIT study will determine if eating fewer calories while in a strength training program makes the program more effective.

Study Design: 
Random (by chance) assignment to receive either a resistance training exercise program or a resistance training exercise program with restricted calorie intake.

Study Qualifications:

  • Age: 65-79
  • Overweight
  • Not currently doing strength training and willing to participate in a 5-month strength training program
  • Have not had a hip or knee replacement
  • Not a smoker

Study Duration: 5 months

Study Benefits:

  • Participation in a weight loss and/or strength training program led by trained specialists
