Brief Summary of Research
The focus of the Porrino Lab is to understand the long-term neurobiological effects of chronic drug exposure. Our laboratory is interested in both therapeutic drugs such as those used for the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder and Parkinson’s disease, as well as abused drugs such as cocaine, marijuana and alcohol that lead to addiction. We use a truly translational approach as we are one of the few labs that conduct studies in clinical populations alongside studies in animal models. All of our studies use a multitude of imaging methods ranging from positron emission tomography and functional magnetic resonance imaging in humans to in vitro receptor autoradiography, in vivo PET imaging, and in situ hybridization in animal models.
