There were no updates made to the CCCWFU CCOP Research Base website for the week of August 15, 2011.
Message from Kathryn Weaver, PhD:
I would like to extend an invitation to all sites to send a staff member to the 2011 Research Base Annual Meeting to receive training for the Feasibility of Delivering a Quitline Based Smoking Cessation Intervention in Lung Cancer Patients Receiving Outpatient Treatment: A Pilot Study
We plan to open this study for enrollment later this fall.
This study will enroll non-metastatic lung cancer patients who are currently smoking and randomize them to usual care or an enhanced quitline intervention.
During the full day training session on Thursday and Friday morning, site representatives will learn about the rationale for the study, protocol procedures, and motivational interviewing strategies to use with patients enrolling in the quitline study.
Participation by at least one site staff member who is willing to deliver the in-person counseling session is required for all sites planning to open the study this year. At the end of the training, staff will be ready to deliver the brief in-person intervention which focuses on increasing a patient’s motivation to quit smoking and increasing the patient’s knowledge about how quitting smoking will benefit them after their cancer diagnosis. We hope all sites will participate.
Sincerely, Kathryn Weaver, PhD Study PI
